2010 KeeLung Mayor Cup Kendo Competition (Mar 7)

It was my first competition this year as a part of the Songshan dojo team. Also, it’s been about an year since my last one as I wasn’t able to participate the two 2009 fall ones due to my business trips in Q4 last year.

I think we did pretty good since the man’s team ended up in the 3rd place and I and a few others ended up in the 4th place for individual.

The competition started around 9 am and lasted till 7pm. I had to go through about 12 matches which was quite exhausting for me at the end both physically and mentally…. looking at my relative age (had to compete with many late 20′s and early 30′s) and amount of workout and practice I was able to do recently.

I used to not play Taisho that much when I was part of the school team since I had other senbais in the team. However, in Songshan team, I usually end up playing Taisho and this competition was the case as well. Being a Taisho gives me a different type of challenges especially it often ends up my game determining the team result. Nonetheless, I would say I am more than happy to play the role as long as I can contribute to the team.

One of my matches – White is me and, as usual, a bit disappointed to see how I actually play vs. the image I have in my mind. At least I am very glad that I found a few things to work on.

especially when I come out loosing a challenging match. Usually, after those matches, I play back the game in my mind and it is a mind boggling experience recalling all the decisions I made and why, which has a lot to do with the changes in my emotion after every single attack I and my opponent exchanged,
